A festival celebrating underwater exploration of our Great Lakes maritime history
In recent years the NOF has produced a series of award-winning films called Great Lakes, Ancient Shores, about historical and prehistoric discoveries under the lakes.
In their 2008 film of this series called River Channels, a Noble Odyssey team of scientists and Sea Cadets takes the viewer on an underwater reconnaissance of the St. Clair River (connecting Lakes Huron and St. Clair), the Thunder Bay National Marine Sanctuary, and an ancient river canyon in the Straits of Mackinac. Along the way they explore and document coastal features and shipwrecks, with commentary provided by staff and cadet divers. The 20-minute film, available on DVD, portrays a typical season of underwater exploration and research on board the Pride of Michigan.
The non-profit Noble Odyssey Foundation (a Michigan 501c3) depends on grants and contributions to carry out its unique mission of education and research on the Great Lakes. Through nationwide training of Sea Cadets as research divers, the foundation also develops appreciation and promotes wise stewardship of Great Lakes resources among America's future leaders.
